Did you know that there are gi and non-gi Jiu-Jitsu sports? If yes, do you know the difference? Both are forms of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. While Gi Jiu-Jitsu encourages grappling with the use of traditional Gi, No Gi doesn't use traditional uniforms. Gi participants wear the regular uniform while their counterparts in No-Gi don't wear conventional attire. Instead, they wear shorts and a rash guard. No-Gi participants are not permitted to grab their opponent's clothing.

To be an all-rounder, you need to be trained in both variants of the sports. Marcelo Garcia is a role model as far as the game of BJJ jiu-jitsu is concerned. He trained in both sports having gained proficiency in Gi Jiu-Jitsu first. Soon, he grew to the ranks in No-Gi. If you get used to Gi, you may find it challenging to cope with No-Gi and vice versa.

Both games may have the same root, but there are slight differences here and there. This article looks at some of them, which are:

The Gi is popularly known for the number of grips on the pants and jacket. The most common type of jacket grip is the sleeve grip. It allows you to dominate the fight and submit your opponent using your own Gi. This strategy enables a smaller opponent to be in control of the battle over a bigger one. For no Gi, the grips are wrestling-based like grabbing the joints in the body and the neck. This makes it harder to control your opponent.

Both variants of this sport get its name from the difference in styling. In Gi, participants wear a BJJ Gi. And in No-Gi, they wear a rash guard and shorts.

The rules for No-Gi and Gi are almost the same but with slight modifications here and there. ADCC which is the biggest No-Gi tournament, allows heel hooks, but IBJFF does not permit it.

No-Gi is known as a fast-paced sport, but Gi is slow due to the friction from the garment. Both games may be similar, but their styles are different. Gi allows for numerous grips and setups, but No-Gi looks like you're taking your opponent's back. No-Gi participants would likely use guillotines and more foot locks. You can hardly say which game is more technical because both have peculiar challenges.

BJJ Gi Reviews are one sure way to get the best clothes for your jiu-jitsu. Numerous online vendors promise the best quality, but you may need to cautious before purchasing. Endeavor to train in both variants of this sport because it makes you more proficient. Don't give up in the course of training because this sport portends excellent benefits for you in the future.
